About the DeVos Sport Business Management Program

The DeVos Sport Business Management Program in the College of Business Administration at the University of Central Florida is the first of its kind in the area of sport management graduate studies. The program was launched in the Fall of 2002. It is the vision of Rich & Helen DeVos, owners of RDV Sports and the Orlando Magic of the National Basketball Association. The endowment for the program is a $2.5 million gift by Mr. & Mrs. DeVos, which has been matched by the State of Florida. The endowment, in addition to the donated scholarships, has allowed the program to have either scholarships or graduate assistant positions for all students.

The DeVos Program is an integrative "living classroom" with a rigorous and comprehensive academic schedule that keeps teams of students together throughout their two-year coursework. The core curriculum of the DeVos Sport Business Management Program incorporates UCF College of Business Administration core classes, specific sport business classes, and other unique classes that emphasize the social impact of sport. Students are given interactive projects and programs that allow them to work along-side world-class sport business leaders, while building a network of contacts that help create rewarding post-graduation opportunities. Additionally, graduates will discover" the role of sport in society; how the power of sport can help create a more inclusive society; and the responsibility of sport to use that power to make a difference.

The University of Central Florida, established in 1963 as Florida Technological University, is one of the fastest growing metropolitan universities in the country. Accredited by AACSB International (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), the College of Business Administration has awarded more than 23,000 degrees since 1970. Due to tremendous growth, a newly-constructed 60,000 square-foot facility-housing high-tech labs, seminar rooms, a career planning and placement center, interview rooms and departmental offices-is the site of the DeVos Program. As Orlando's higher-education partner, UCF plays a major role in the region's development through its community and corporate partnerships, its research programs, and the talents of its 47,300 students and 125,000 alumni.

RDV Sports, named for chairman Rich DeVos, is the parent company of the Orlando Magic, the RDV Sportsplex, and Magic Carpet Aviation.
