CBA Spotlight: Eunice Choi

Eunice ChoiOftentimes when the strength of the economy decreases, business opportunities increase. Fortunately for entrepreneurs and small business owners in Central Florida, there is a place they can go to learn more about those opportunities. That place is the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at UCF.

The SBDC is led by Eunice Choi who was named regional director in September 2008. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Choi is a certified business analyst and has been with the SBDC for 10 years. During her tenure, her assistance to SBDC clients has resulted in a substantial economic impact for many small businesses, including total capital formation of over $43 million. She has counseled over 1600 businesses and taught more than 130 workshops.

Choi has set several goals for the SBDC:

  • Build a distinct identity as a premier source for business assistance;
  • Achieve performance excellence;
  • Engage UCF faculty and students,
  • Strengthen community relations.

She thinks that the quality of the counselors and their excellent team work sets our SBDC apart from similar centers at other universities. "I would like to see the SBDC recognized as the best business assistance provider in Florida within the next five years. I would also like to position the SBDC as a well-known venue for the university's community outreach," she said.

The SBDC is part of the UCF College of Business Administration and the Florida Small Business Development Center Network. The center serves an eight-county area that includes Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Sumter, and Volusia counties, and is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
