CBA Faculty Spotlight: Gregory Trompeter
There is a new face in the Kenneth G. Dixon School of Accounting this semester! Gregory Trompeter has joined UCF as the C.G. Avery Professor of Accounting. Prior to this appointment, he was an associate professor and director of the Master of Science in Accounting program in the Carroll School of Management at Boston College.
Trompeter was attracted to UCF because it is growing rapidly – both in size and quality. “UCF’s reputation as a top-notch school will eventually catch up with the institution. I view this position as an opportunity to get in on the ground floor and have a positive impact on an up-and-coming institution,” he said.
His research areas focus on issues related to auditor independence and the auditing profession, while his teaching interests include financial accounting theory, financial statement analysis, international financial reporting standards, ethical decision making and professionalism.
He offers the following advice to students: "Become well-rounded. While it is important to develop expertise in accounting and business, it is also important to be a well-rounded interesting person with many interests. It will make you a better business person and it will lead to a happier, more fulfilling life!"
Trompeter earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He once was a park ranger for the National Park Service and enjoys outdoor activities including camping, canoeing, and hiking in the White Mountains. His wife Anne is a faculty member in the College of Nursing and they have a 15 year-old son.
