Department Fact Sheet
1. The Department of Economics has 29 full-time faculty members - 21 tenured and
tenure-earning faculty and 8 instructors.
2. Women make up more than one-fifth of full-time faculty. The faculty is highly
diverse in terms of race and ethnicity.
3. The Department has 8 faculty members to support its niche area in
Environmental and Natural Resources (ENR) Economics, including a Galloway
Eminent Scholar Chair and a Distinguished Research Professorship.
4. The new Economics Ph.D. program with an emphasis on Environmental and
Natural Resources (ENR) Economics has an incoming class of 8 students.
5. Funded research projects in 2004 included 2 EPA grants. The Department
ranked #76 by NSF in R&D Expenditures in Social Sciences.
6. During the past two years, the Department funded 15 national and international
conferences.
7. The Department has a formal seminar series. Last year, 14 presentations were
made at the Seminar and Brown Bag Series.
8. The Department maintains a website for Faculty Working Papers. In 2005, 19 working papers were listed.
9. The Department houses the Center for Economic Education and the Institute for
Economic Competitiveness.
10. All full-time faculty are supported with 5-10 hours of graduate student assistance per week.
11. Faculty offices are located in the new Business Administration II building. The
offices are equipped with high-speed personal computers and laser printers.
12. All college classrooms are equipped with high-tech multimedia facilities.
