Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)

A Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) is an individual who is well-trained and highly motivated in today's competitive business environment. Nationwide, the CIA examination is offered twice a year, in May and November. Preparation for the CIA exam requires familiarity with internal auditing subjects, reflects current practice, and encourages a broad knowledge base. The following is a list of the CIA requirements:

  • Pass all four parts of the CIA examination.
  • Hold a baccalaureate degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university. Students attending accredited U.S. universities may apply when they attain senior standing and will be permitted to take the examination pending receipt of degree.
  • Have at least two years of internal auditing experience or the equivalent.
